Welcome to the GATE District Home

The Elkhorn Area School District (EASD) believes in providing all students with equity in educational opportunities to 1) achieve academic excellence, 2) develop intellectual capabilities, 3) assume leadership roles, 4) engage in challenging endeavors, and 5) express themselves in original and creative ways.

An important aspect of EASD’s comprehensive educational program is the identification and education of gifted and talented students.  Gifted and
talented students shall be defined as those students who excel or have the potential to excel in one or more of the following areas: general intelligence, specific academic ability, leadership capabilities, creativity, and talent in the performing or visual arts.

Because of the wide range of interests and potentials of gifted and talented students, the program must utilize a variety of approaches and techniques to meet those needs.  EASD believes in the educational necessity of integrating Gifted and Talented Education into the existing educational program.  This approach will provide an opportunity for a wide range of students to engage in challenging experiences and activities.

EASD will continue to encourage all students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens in a challenging and diverse global society, through support from, communication with, and involvement of parents, students, educators, and community members.
